Remembering a Cinematic Giant: Auction of Iconic Pieces
A towering figure in cinema was lost this past January, and now, film lovers and collectors alike have the rare chance to own a piece of his enduring legacy—if they can meet the price. With the upcoming auction of David Lynch’s personal collection, fans are getting an intimate look at the life behind the lens. Surprisingly, this sale includes not only the expected scripts and memorabilia but also dishes, silverware, books, records, a coffee maker—even a dish rack.
For enthusiasts of Mid-Century Modern design, the furniture is truly remarkable. Coveted pieces such as the Saarinen Womb Chair, George Nelson Coconut Chairs with Ottomans, a boomerang sofa, and the Noguchi Freedom Sofa with Ottoman are all part of the auction lineup.
Technology aficionados will appreciate the gadgets—cameras, lighting and microphones—while musicians will be drawn to the instruments—drums and guitars—included in the sale. There’s also a fascinating assortment of film props, like the Mulholland Drive menus from Winkie’s, as well as a treasure trove of scripts: three of them currently at $6,000 with 28 bids, and a single Twin Peaks script—marked with the crossed-out working title Northwest Passage—already at $5,000 and 29 bids.
Perhaps the most coveted item is his director’s chair, which is drawing intense interest at $15,000 with 20 bids.
While many of these pieces are expected to find new homes in museums or with deep-pocketed collectors, there’s still a chance for fans to bid on a tangible piece of film history. The auction will be held on June 18 at 10 a.m. at Julien’s in Los Angeles.
