TABLE READS
Table reads are an essential part of the script development and writing process, as writers use them as an opportunity to hear their stories breathe so that they may fine tune their script, sharpen dialogue, and make other necessary adjustments before taking it to the next level, which may be contest submission or production.
RFN organizes public Table Reads for member writers using member actors.
Writers use this opportunity to “meet” their characters for the first time, hearing their voices and seeing their mannerisms live and in color.
Directors can make or confirm casting decisions based on actors’ performances during a Table Read.
Actors have an opportunity to display their abilities in front of the writer (and audience), which may solidify casting decisions.
Observers provide a kind of test market response to both the script and actors.
