RFN Screenwriters' Lab #7

  • Tuckahoe Library Conference Room 1901 Starling Drive Henrico VA United States (map)

Join us for the RFN Screenwriters Lab where we workshop member scripts! This month, our featured scripts are: TBA

The Richmond Film Network Screenwriters’ Lab is an opportunity for writers to improve their craft by serving as a writer, peer or observer. We believe that participating in any of the three roles provides an opportunity to learn valuable skills.

  • Writers submit their scripts to obtain critical feedback from peers with fresh eyes and unique perspectives. Anyone may submit scripts for workshopping consideration, but scripts must demonstrate a basic understanding of script format to ensure the Lab Is primarily focused on story structure and development, and not on formatting rules. If formatting workshops are desired, a separate Lab with this sole focus and purpose can be scheduled.

  • Peers read scripts and provide feedback to writers by noting what works, identifying problems, and suggesting potential solutions for the writer to consider. Peers should have some writing experience and are highly encouraged to register for Labs early so that they may receive scripts in advance and have time prior to the Lab to read and prepare.

  • Observers audit the Lab to gain knowledge, insight, and confidence with their own writing and abilities as a future peer or writer.

The RFN Screenwriters Lab is a safe, constructive space for creatives to support, learn, grow, and inspire. Anyone may participate, but participants must be RFN members (free to join).

Two scripts are selected per workshop. Each workshop has a moderator who maintains structure and leads the discussion. Moderators are also responsible for selecting scripts to be workshopped from the pool of submissions. Members demonstrating interest and ability may volunteer to moderate future Labs (preferably 2 consecutive for continuity) by submitting their interest HERE.

Workshopped writers must attend Lab for which their script is scheduled and are responsible for taking their own notes.

Scripts that have gone through the workshopping (and subsequent editing) process may wish to have RFN organize a Table Read, whereby RFN member actors are selected and utilized to present script to the public for the purpose of hearing the script breathe, and providing another opportunity for feedback for the writer.

Attendance credentials will be sent to registered members with scripts, once selected.
