You asked for it, you got it! Join us for our first RFN Screenwriters Lab where we will workshop member scripts!
The Screenwriters Lab will discuss, critique and provide feedback to our member writers by:
noting what works
identifying problems, and
suggesting potential solutions for the writer to consider
Now accepting script submissions! Send PDF scripts to richmondfilmnetwork@gmail.com no later than June 7 to be considered for the June 21 Lab. Both shorts and features are accepted. REGISTER HERE.
Here are the program guidelines:
1. The RFN Screenwriters Lab is a safe, constructive space for creatives to support, learn, grow, and inspire.
2. Anyone may participate as writer (being workshopped), peer (offering feedback) or observer, but participants must be RFN app members (free to join).
3. Our first Lab is complimentary. Future Labs will have a participant attendance fee due upon registration. Participants may contribute feedback as a peer writer, or just observe. We believe that both roles receive benefit from the process. Peers should have some writing experience and are highly encouraged to register early so that they may receive scripts and have time prior to the workshop to read and prepare.
4. Any RFN app member may submit a script(s) to richmondfilmnetwork@gmail.com for workshopping consideration, but scripts must demonstrate a basic understanding of script format to ensure the workshop is primarily focused on story structure and development, and not on formatting rules. If formatting workshops are desired, a separate Lab with this sole focus and purpose can be scheduled.
5. Both shorts and features are accepted.
6. Two scripts will be selected per workshop. Upon acceptance, a workshopping fee will be due from each writer. Fees are waived for this first Lab.
7. Each workshop will have a moderator who will lead the Lab and discussion. RFN Founder Lisa Giles will moderate the first two Labs. RFN members demonstrating interest and ability may volunteer to moderate future Labs (2 consecutive for continuity) by submitting their interest to richmondfilmnetwork@gmail.com.
8. Workshopped writers are responsible for taking their own notes.
9. Moderator is responsible for selecting the scripts from submissions to be workshopped at each event.
10. Scripts that have gone through the workshopping (and subsequent editing) process may wish to have RFN organize a Table Read, whereby RFN member actors will be selected and utilized to present script to the public for the purpose of hearing the script breathe and provide another opportunity for feedback for the writer. Table Read fee TBD.
